Special Tour of New Grange Burial Tombs in Ireland With LEAH!

Video Placeholder

Are you ready to tour a 5000-year-old burial site in ancient Ireland with me?

I was recently in Ireland with my family and this was one of the most incredible sites we visited!

No cameras are allowed inside the ancient burial tomb, but I give you a glimpse of the outside, as well as a tour of one of the nearby open burial mounds.

The second mound is very much like the first one when you go inside.

There's a long entrance passage, and the inside is very round.

What's so incredible about this site, aside from the fact that it's older than the pyramids in ancient Egypt, is that it's been 100% rainproof in rainy Ireland all this time! Not even one crack in the roof.

The construction was so well-thought out!

Newgrange Entrance

Here are a couple of photos of what the outside entrance to Newgrange looks like, and the inside (not my photo). It's very small and narrow. If it wasn't so incredibly fascinating, it would be easy to feel a bit claustrophobic!

The center was by far the coolest. Totally round ceiling overhead, with ancient carvings, etched everywhere.

Should You Take The Tour?

My answer is an emphatic YES!  That's the only way you're allowed to see the inside of Newgrange. They are very protective of this place, and rightly so.

It was originally discovered a couple centuries ago (if I remember correctly), and was "vandalized" by old-school graffiti -  people etching and carving their own names into the stones to be immortalized.

Also, if you take the tour, you'll be asked to take off any backpacks or purses you're wearing so they don't scratch the walls or ceiling.

If you're with a large group, they have you all stand in the middle, and do a quick re-enactment of how it would look on Winter Solstice, when the sun illuminates the passageway directly into the center of the tomb.

Pretty cool!

What a memorable place to visit!

We will never forget this experience. Well worth the trip for any family!

My question for you is: have you visited Newgrange?

Have you visited anywhere else that really resonated with you?

Tell me below in the comments!

I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Love,

Leah
